A loon update on “my” loon: (Photo and notes by Highland Lake loon observer Donna Baker Hartwell) “Our chick as grown considerably. He/she is now 23 days old. Parents leave the chick floating alone for longer periods (4-5 minutes) of time while they are fishing. The family reunited before the hour was up.”

This morning the loons came near me for the first time with the chick! I also swam with the blue heron feeding nearby, the Canada goose family (11 of them!), and a stray duck. It was a grand bird morning, and I tried to swim glidingly to fit in with the crowd.
