Photo of the Day

Introducing . . . . Photo of the Day!

The students have a turn carrying the digital camera for the day to record something memorable or important to them.  They will write a piece or ask a question to match their photo.

Here is our group choice for today!  As we ran up the hill for our afternoon teambuilding time, we encountered a scientific treat.  Road crews were trimming the trees away from the telephone wires.  We counted how many machines we each observed.  What safety features do you think were on their trucks or bodies?  We saw a lot of them.  If we’d had a half hour to watch, we probably still would have been sitting on the bank just fascinated.  The zipping long trimmers were especially nifty to watch.  You never know what juicy learning might come your way each day if your eyes are open and observant.

  1. Hi Guys! I like your picture choice! I watched these guys for a bit with the PK kids. I’ll toss out a couple safety elements and save some for other responses! The PK’ers and I noticed the yellow vests right away. Now I’ll share one of my own…the stabilizing legs on the truck…so that it doesn’t sway while the workers are in the basket.
Can’t wait to hear some of your other observations!
    Love,

  2. Each should have been wearing safety glasses – to protect their eyes – and ear muffs to protect their hearing with the loud sound of the saws.

  3. How exciting it was to be able to take the time to stop for this very enjoyable teachable moment! It was so interesting watching these men doing their job, trimming trees around the electric power lines, with proficiency and efficiency!

  4. I noticed that the big arm was in the very middle of the truck for balance. If it was on one side or the other, the truck would trip that way or this way. It’s a good thing they think of safety, or they could be dead.
