A Goat? Really?

While we adults sometimes blithely go on our way oblivious to the wonders around us, children stop and exclaim over the surprising discoveries that come their way each day.  During Book Buddies yesterday, I overheard a hooting conversation between a second grader and PreK student apparently experiencing There Was an Old Woman Who Swallowed a Fly for the first time.

“Seriously?  I can see swallowing a bug by mistake, but a GOAT?”

“Ba, ha, ha! A cow?”

And hilarious laughter accompanied every page.

Experiencing surprises again through their eyes is just one more reason why a teacher’s life is oh, so good.

Animal Sharing

Our Book Buddy time today was special to us, for we had the opportunity to share some of our animal knowledge with our buddies.  We read animal books, showed our vertebrate and invertebrate projects, and left for the weekend with a growl, a hoot, or an oink.  Oh, how we love our buddies!

Book Buddy Luncheon

lunch1

Thinking of great questions to start a conversation, conversing pleasantly, listening carefully to a friend . . .

lunch2

Reading, discussing, enjoying, reading some more . . .

lunch3

Overheard today from two first graders:

“This is just like being in a restaurant!”

“Why, yes,” was the reply.  “We have little tables like a restaurant, lovely dinner music like a restaurant, and even soft rolls from Mrs. Sprague just like a restaurant!”

Our book buddy lunches are a delight.
