STEAM Sewing with Mrs. Shedd
Mrs. Shedd warms up our winter days with sewing projects each year, so that we can develop useful STEAM skills that will help us to serve others and accomplish useful things. This week we kicked off with aprons for cooking or shop. Thank you, Mrs. Shedd.
Problem Solvers in Action
Some of our homeschool blogging friends used their sewing engineering skills to make pouches to hold and carry their hamster and guinea pig! How cool is that! How many of you use STEAM skills to solve problems of various kinds every day? I know I do.
God’s Sewing Machine
In answer to prayer, God provided a sewing machine for Mrs. Shedd (actually two!). This generous group of families gave within only a few hours of hearing of the broken sewing machine, and we are celebrating our Father’s goodness. Mrs. Shedd gives and gives and gives, and she was moved to tears by the overwhelming support of our class. She now has a new heavy duty machine to keep at school for our heavy duty projects, as well as a beautiful used machine for preparing those projects at home and working on her own home sewing. Wow. On its first day, the children prayed and dedicated this machine to be used by the Lord to help many young people learn and to bless many people through the things it makes. We had a great discussion of how we can use the talents and possessions God gives us to serve Him in all kinds of unique ways. Then the machine got right to work making ear warmers!
Sewing for the Haven
Every Christmas we choose a serving project to work on as a class. This year we are making Blessing Bags for the Haven, full of items that might help a person who is homeless. Mrs. Shedd is helping each student to use their STEM skills to sew two neck warmers for our Blessing Bags.

Crazy 8s Meets Sewing
Wonderful Mrs. Shedd is leading a three week math/sewing project combining our Crazy 8s math exuberance with our sewing enthusiasm. Last week we explored parabolic curves through drawing and this week through sewing. Just wait and see what week three brings!
