The Character of God in Exodus 34:6-7

Over the past month or so, we have been discussing sharing the Good News with others around us. Part of that is knowing what the Good News is. We have acted out sheepfolds, including a beanbag-throwing shepherd guarding the precious sheep from the wolves and lions, plus actively seeking out the one lost one. We watched an imagined video of the encounter between Jesus and the woman at the well as He talked about the living water. We looked at scripture about watching and being ready for His return. We shared testimonies of His saving grace.

Side by side with this, we also did a study of Exodus 34:6-7 to keep in mind the character of God. Who is this amazing God who provides the way of salvation? He is “a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness, keeping steadfast love for thousands.” Did you know that specific description of God’s character can be found in over twenty places in the Bible? Here are the video links we used in class, in case you want to discuss them again at home. What an awesome God the one true God is!

Josiah’s Reading Thoughts . . . .

I recommend the Who Was and What Was series.  It is a good series about specific nonfiction people and places, like Who Was Rosa Parks? or What Was the Grand Canyon?  Someone who is interested in history and learning interesting facts would like this series.

I feel like I have read a bit more than usual so far this year, but I have loved reading all along.  My fluency and vocabulary have been growing this year.

I think reading is good because it is fun and gives you interesting facts.  If you need a good book recommendation, come see me anytime!

Caught Me By Surprise

Every day these brainy thinkers wow me.  Here’s one of today’s clever moments.

During a morning meeting thinking game, for one category of the game, I said an idiom and the students had to pass the ball to another person who told what the idiom really means.

I said, “You’ve left me in the dark.”

Brainy child replied, “I am not quite sure what you mean, but it’s on the tip of my tongue.”

Just one of the delightful moments brought to you by the second and third graders today!

Buddy Engineering Celebration

We have enjoyed every interaction with our PreK buddies this year, most especially our joint engineering expeditions.  To top off the year, we repeated some favorites in our station rotation, plus we created a “book buddy” to read beside our buddies this summer.  (Get it?  A book buddy for our book buddies!)  Mrs. Fogg also gave us the supplies we need to send letters to our buddies this summer, and we can’t wait.  What a marvelous year we had together!

Unfair Taxes!

IMG_2477

As we roll up to the American Revolution, the colonists are getting restless.  They made money pouches for their precious coins, only to find out that the king needed more money to pay his soldiers.  He thought some taxes were a great idea for funding.  How about a “brown eyes” tax?  A pet tax perhaps?  Could a revolution be brewing?

START is Here!

IMG_1159

We welcome Dartmouth students Rebecca Xu, ’15, and Elaine Chiu, ’17, to our class!  Rebecca and Elaine are our brilliant, creative START (Students Teaching in the ARTs) volunteers, joining our class to blend the arts into our Energy, Heat, and Light units this winter.  Their generous giving and sharing add so much ENERGY to our studies.  We can’t wait for the other five weeks of visits to get here!
