Blog Challenge #3: Share a Summer Adventure!

What are you up to?  We’d like to know!

This week’s challenge is to share one of your summer adventures on your blog (or e-mail to Miss Blessing).  We can only imagine!

Look what Finnian did!  His mom said, ” While we were in Colorado, Finnian (and our family) completed the Manitou Incline. It was quite the feat!”

I had never heard of it, but WHOA!  It has 2,744 steps that gain 2,000 feet from start to finish.  In some spots, the incline is as steep as 68%.  Figure that out, math brains.  Wow.  They even warn you it is so challenging that it might take 3-4 hours for first responders to get to you if you have a problem, so make sure you’re in shape before you do it.

Read more about the Manitou Incline.

So your adventure might not quite be THIS extreme, but tell us all about it.  We can’t wait.

Wedding Day

It was absolutely indescribable to be TOGETHER again with family this weekend.  Gloriana has traveled beside me all along through so many adventures, from our yearly winter treks to the sea making snail hotels together, to her willing participation in all my crazy school ideas like being Sacagawea on Corps of Discovery Day.  What a beautiful bride!  God is so good.

You Just Never Know What Might Happen . . . .

“He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. And the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.” (Luke 1:32-33)

We love the anticipation of the Advent season, and we have been eagerly studying the coming of the Messiah. Today we read more of Luke 1 about John the Baptist preparing the way of the Lord. The students were a bit surprised, but we all got quite a giggle out of making John the Baptist locusts. Yum.

Audubon for Kids

During the summer, I share learning opportunities that might be of interest to your family.

Check out Audubon for Kids if you’re looking for some bird-themed learning resources!

For example, in “Week 1:  Get to Know Birds”, you can download their Audubon Adventure magazine, plus there’s an art lesson on how birds got their names, an online game “Whose Beak?  Whose Feet?”, a pigeon watch activity, how to make a birdfeeder out of recycled materials, a number of birding activities for your family to do outside, and a vimeo on sketching a black-capped chickadee step by step.  The world is full of wondrous things!
